ごきげんよう。私はカナダのトロント大学でコンピュータサイエンスを勉強しています。
2025年9月からトロント大学での生活が始まりテストや課題が多く大変ですが、友達や学習環境に恵まれ、充実した毎日を過ごしています！

Hello, I'm currently studying Computer Science at the University of Toronto in Canada.
My university life began in September 2025, and it has been very busy with exams and assignments. Nevertheless, thanks to my amazing friends and supportive learning environment, I have been enjoying a fulfilling study abroad experience.

トロント大学はFall term（9月〜12月）とWinter term（１〜4月）の２学期制で、各学期に主に中間テストシーズンが2回、期末テストシーズンが1回あります。そして、２つの中間テストシーズンの間に１週間のreading weekという休みがあります。そのため、基本的に常にテストや課題に追われています。トロント大学で一番大きな図書館であるRobarts Libraryは、テスト期間は２４時間開いていて、多くの学生たちが勉強に打ち込んでいる様子が印象的です。

The University of Toronto has two terms: the Fall term (September to December) and the Winter term (January to April). In each term, we usually have two midterms and one final exam. In addition, there is a one-week break between the midterms. As a result, we are almost always busy with exams and assignments. Robarts Library, the largest library at the university, is open 24 hours during exam periods, and it is impressive to see so many students dedicated to their studies.

私は現在コンピュータサイエンスを中心に学んでいて、さらに数学、統計学、経済学などを受講しています。 コンピュータサイエンスの授業は、授業やテストの難易度が高いのは勿論、グループプロジェクトや課題が非常に多いです。トロント大学では学生によって授業の組み合わせも様々で、皆が多種多様なスケジュールを持っているため、毎度グループプロジェクトでは効率よくコミュニケーションをとり、お互いのスケジュールを尊重しながら取り組んでいます。特に、コンピュータサイエンスのファイナルプロジェクトで友達とNLP（自然言語処理）手法を用いた書籍推薦システムを作ったのはとても楽しかったです！

I am mainly studying Computer Science, while also taking courses in Mathematics, Statistics, and Economics. Computer Science courses are not only challenging in terms of lectures and exams, but they also involve a lot of assignments and group projects. Since students have diverse schedules, we need to communicate efficiently and respect each other's availability when working on group projects. One of my most enjoyable experiences was the final project in a Computer Science course, where my group developed a book recommendation system using Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques.

また、授業以外では学生団体主催のハッカソン（２４〜４８時間でプログラムを作成して成果を競い合うイベント）やカンファレンスに参加して、新たなことに挑戦し、ネットワークを構築しつつ、学びを深めています。
特に、Trinity College Undergraduate Research Conference 2026で、トロント大学の教授によるアドバイスのもと作成した研究計画を発表したことは、研究アイデアを他者に分かりやすく伝えるとても良い経験になりました。トロント大学は研究型の非常に大きな大学ですが、一年生の授業を担当している教授陣は面倒見が良く、やる気のある学生には親身になって応援してくれるため、様々な活動をすることが可能です。

Outside of classes, I have participated in hackathons, events where participants develop software within 24-48 hours, as well as conferences. These experiences have allowed me to challenge myself, deepen my learning, and expand my network. In particular, I presented my research proposal at the Trinity College Undergraduate Research Conference 2026. With guidance from a professor at the University of Toronto, I developed my research idea and gained valuable experience in communicating it clearly to others. Although the University of Toronto is a large research university, the professors teaching first-year courses are very supportive. They are so willing to help motivated students that we can pursue many opportunities.

トロント大学Faculty of Arts and Scienceには６つのカレッジがあり、入学時に所属が決まります。私は最も伝統のあるカレッジの１つであるTrinityカレッジに所属し、その寮に住んでいます。寮の食堂が1日3食作ってくれるため、勉強で忙しくても毎日栄養バランスの整った料理を食べることができています。

The Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto consists of six colleges, and students are assigned to one upon enrollment. I belong to Trinity College, one of the most traditional colleges, and I live in its residence. The dining hall provides three meals a day, allowing me to maintain a balanced diet even during busy academic periods.

また、カレッジはコミュニティイベントも豊富でとても楽しいです。私はTrinity College Talent Showでバイオリンを演奏しました！１曲目は「千と千尋の神隠し」の「いつも何度でも」をバイオリンでソロ演奏、２曲目は「美女と野獣」を友達のピアノ伴奏と共に演奏しました。規模の大きい大学の中で、このようにカレッジというコミュニティで文化交流を楽しめるのはとても有難いです。

Trinity College also offers many community events. I performed the violin at the Trinity College Talent Show. I played "Always With Me" from Spirited Away as a solo, and also performed "Beauty and the Beast" with my friend's piano accompaniment. I truly appreciate having such a close-knit community within a large university.

気温についてですが、トロントは冬はー２０度近くまで下がり非常に寒いです。実際、12月の期末テストシーズンには少し体調を崩しました。しかし、1、2ヶ月ほどこの冬に耐えていると慣れてきて、今では1、２度だと暖かく感じるようになってきました（笑）。そのため、これからカナダに来ることを考えている人は安心してください！そのうち慣れます！

As for the weather, Toronto gets extremely cold in winter, with temperatures dropping to around -20°C. I actually became a bit sick during the final exam season in December. However, after experiencing the winter for a couple of months, I gradually got used to it. Now, I even feel that 1-2°C is warm! So, for those who are planning to come to Canada, don't worry, you'll get used to it too!

このような充実した留学生活を過ごせているのは、中高時代から様々なサポートをしてくださっている大妻多摩の先生方や家族のおかげだと改めて実感しております。また、JASSO学部学位取得型（給付型の国費奨学金）の金銭面でのサポートにも非常に感謝しております。今後も感謝の気持ちを忘れず、学びを深め、様々なことに挑戦し、自分の道を切り開いていきたいと思います！

Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my teachers at Otsuma Tama and my family, who have continuously supported me throughout my journey. I am also deeply thankful for the financial support provided by the JASSO merit scholarship. With this appreciation in mind, I will continue learning, take on new challenges, and pursue my own path.
