私の留学生活について紹介します。

Good day! I'm studying abroad in Brisbane, Australia.
I'd like to introduce my life in Brisbane.

私のホストファミリーは6人家族で、ガーナ出身のホストマザーとホストファザー、13歳と10歳のホストシスター、5歳と1歳のホストブラザーがいます。13歳のホストシスターは、私と同じ学校（Brigidine College）に通っています。とても家族愛のある家庭で、小さい子どももいるため、掃除や食器洗い、料理の手伝いなどを家族みんなで協力して行っています。

My host family consists of six members: my Ghanaian host mother and host father, my 13-year-old and 10-year-old host sisters, and my 5-year-old and 1-year-old host brothers. My 13-year-old host sister attends the same school as I (Brigidine College). It's a very loving family, and since there are young children, everyone works together to help with chores like cleaning, washing dishes, and cooking.

食事は、昼食や夕食はホストマザーやホストシスターが作ってくれますが、朝食は自分でシリアルやパンなどを準備しています。料理はラザニアやスパゲッティーなどの西洋料理が多いですが、ガーナの料理が出たこともありました。独特な辛さがあり、私はあまり食べることができませんでした。残してしまう申し訳なさや、あまりこの料理が好きではないことを伝えられない悔しさがありましたが、勇気を出して伝えられました。ホストマザーもすぐ理解してくれて、その後からは、料理に気を遣ってもらっています。

My host mother and younger sister cook lunch and dinner for me, but I always make my own breakfast. Most of the food is Western cuisine, like lasagna and spaghetti, but Ghanaian dishes have also been served. They have unique spiciness, so I couldn't eat much. I felt awkward about leaving food uneaten and was frustrated that I couldn't say I didn't like it, but I mustered up the courage to tell them. My host mother understood immediately, and since then, she has become more considerate with the food she prepares.

放課後は、ホストファミリーの家にプールや中庭があるため、子どもたちと一緒にバレーボールやテニスをして過ごしています。また、私はバトン部に所属しているので、ホストファミリーの子どもたちにバトンを教えたり、一人で練習したりすることもあります。

After school, I spend time playing volleyball and tennis with the children at my host family's house, which has a pool and a backyard. Also, since I belong to the baton twirling club, I sometimes teach baton twirling to the host family's children or practice on my own.

休日は、ホストファミリーの友人が家に来たり、反対に友人の家へ遊びに行ったりすることが多いです。集まったときは、みんなで会話を楽しんだり、一緒に食事をしたりして過ごしています。その中で驚いたのは、日本語を学んでいる人が多いことです。日本語で自己紹介をしてくれる人もいて、私が漢字を教えることもあります。このような交流の時間はとても楽しいです。そのほかにも、ショッピングをしたり、友達と出かけに行ったりしています。

On holidays, I often have friends from my host family come over, or I go to visit friends' homes. When we gather, we enjoy conversations together and spend time eating meals together. What surprised me is how many people are learning Japanese. Some introduce themselves in Japanese, and I sometimes teach them kanji. These times of interaction are enjoyable. Other than that, I go shopping or hang out with friends.

日曜日は家族と一緒にキリスト教カトリックの教会へ行くこともあります。最初は、自分がキリスト教徒ではないため参加してよいのか不安でしたが、静かに座って見ているだけでも大丈夫でした。教会では、歌を歌ったり、お祈りをしたり、神父さんの話を聞いたりします。パンとぶどう酒を受け取る儀式もありますが、これは基本的にキリスト教徒のみが参加するものなので、私は参加していません。この時間は英語のリスニングの練習にもなり、教会の雰囲気や文化を体験できるため、とても貴重な経験になっています。

On Sundays, I sometimes go to a Catholic church with my host family. At first, I was worried about whether it was okay for me to attend since I'm not a Christian, but it was fine just to sit quietly and observe. At church, we sing songs, pray, and listen to the priest's sermon. There is also a ritual of receiving bread and wine, but since this is basically for Christians only, I do not participate. This time also serves as English listening practice, and being able to experience the atmosphere and culture of the church has been a very valuable experience.

私はバスと電車を使って、約１時間かけて学校に通学しています。ホストシスターもBrigidine Collegeに通っているため、一緒に登校しています。オーストラリアの電車は、日本の電車と比べてとても空いていると感じました。日本では通勤の時間帯になると身動きが取れないほど満員電車になったりしますが、オーストラリアでは混んでいる時間でもそこまで混雑しません。そのため、電車の中に自転車を持ち込んでいる人をよく見ます。

I commute to school by bus and train, taking about an hour each way. My host sister also attends Brigidine College, so we go to school together. Compared to Japan, I find Australian trains much less crowded. In Japan, trains become packed during rush hour, often to the point where you can barely move. In Australia, even during busy times, they aren't that crowded. Because of this, I often see people bringing bicycles onto the trains.

私の通うBrigidine Collegeは約900人が在籍する、キリスト教カトリックの学校です。自然が豊かな学校で、緑のワンピースの制服ととてもマッチしています。
学校は大妻多摩と同じで8時25分から始まります。しかし、プールやテニスを練習している人がいたり、図書館で本を読んでいる人がいたりと朝早くから活動している生徒が多いなと思いました。放課後には、クラブがあり、私のホストシスターは毎週火曜日にドラマクラブに行っています。約30人参加しているそうです。

Brigidine College I attend is a Christian Catholic school with about 900 students. It is a school surrounded by nature, and the green dress uniform matches very well with the environment. School starts at 8:25, just like Otsuma Tama. However, I noticed that many students are active early in the morning, whether they are practicing swimming or tennis, or reading books in the library. After school, there are clubs, and my host sister attends the drama club every Tuesday. Apparently, about 30 students participated.

次に選択科目についてです。私は、日本語とダンスを選択しました。そのほかにも、家庭科、経済、デジタルデザイン、フランス語、音楽、芸術、ドラマ、保健体育など様々な分野から２つ選択することができます。ダンスの授業では、商品を宣伝するダンスの作成を行っています。曲や小道具、ダンスのスタイルなどすべてが自由なので、考えるのが大変です。また、周りの生徒はダンスやバレエの経験者が多いので、私も負けないようにがんばっています。

Next, regarding elective courses. I chose Japanese and Dance. Additionally, you can select two more from various fields such as Home Economics, Economics, Digital Design, French, Music, Art, Drama, and Health and Physical Education. In Dance class, we're creating promotional dances for products. Since everything—the music, props, dance style—is completely up to us, it's quite challenging to come up with ideas. Also, many of the other students have experience in dance or ballet, so I'm working hard not to fall behind.

２月４日にはSwimming Carnivalがありました。この学校では、クラスとは別に６色のハウスに分かれています。私はDelanyという黄色のハウスに所属しているので、黄色のチームでした。このカーニバルでは、ハウスカラーのグッズの持ち込みが許可されているので、私は、黄色のグッズを持っていたり、友達からグッズを借りたりしました。また、私はこの日に、去年大妻多摩に留学したBrigidine Collegeの生徒にたまたま会い、久々に話すことができて楽しかったです。

On February 4th, there was a Swimming Carnival. At this school, students are divided into six houses, separate from their classes. I belong to the yellow house called Delany, so I was on the yellow team. At this carnival, we were allowed to bring goods in our house colors, so I brought some yellow items and borrowed some from my friends. Additionally, on this day, I happened to meet a student from Brigidine College who had studied abroad at Otsuma Tama last year, and it was fun to catch up after a long time.

Brigidine Collegeでの留学はとても楽しく、このままこの学校に通えたらいいのにと思っています。しかし、英語力がまだまだ足りていないので、残りの留学生活では一つでも多く、表現できる英語を増やせるように頑張っていきます。
この留学生活を支えてくださっているすべての方々に、心から感謝しています。

Studying abroad at Brigidine College has been a lot of fun, and I wish I could continue attending this school. However, since my English skills are still lacking, I will do my best during the remainder of my study abroad to increase the number of expressions I can use in English. I am truly grateful to everyone who has supported me during this study abroad experience.
