はじめに

最初の一週間は日本とは違う環境になれるのが大変でした。
しかし、交換留学のため、困ったらすぐに頼れるバディがいたことでとても心強かったです。

The first week was tough getting used to an environment so different from Japan.
But having a buddy I could rely on for help whenever I needed it made me feel very reassured.

私のホストファミリーはホストマザー、ホストファザー、ホストブラザー、バディ、そして猫が一匹の五人家族です。
私のホストマザーとホストファザーはドイツ語しかしゃべれず、最初はうまくコミュニケーションがとれるかとても不安でしたが、今では英語が話せるバディとホストブラザーがすぐに英語に翻訳してくれたり、ジェスチャーを使ったりしながら楽しくコミュニケーションを取ることができています。

My host family consists of my host mother, host father, host brother, my buddy, and a cat.
At first, I was very nervous because my host mother and host father speak only German, and I was worried about whether we could communicate well. However, my buddy and host brother, who can speak English, often translate for us. We also use gestures and facial expressions, so now we can communicate happily and comfortably.

また、お互いの家族の共通点が多いためそのような話でも盛り上がりました。
例えば、ホストマザーがピアノの先生なので、私と私の兄の昔のピアノの発表会の動画を見せたことで日本の子供はみんな真面目に練習していてえらい！とほめてもらうことができました。
また、私の兄とホストブラザーの趣味が似ていてその話でも盛り上がりました。

We found that our families have many things in common, which made our conversations more enjoyable.
For example, my host mother is a piano teacher, so I showed her videos of my brother’s and my piano recitals from when we were younger. She praised us and said that Japanese children practice very hard.
Also, my brother and my host brother have similar hobbies, and they enjoyed talking about them.

家族旅行ではノイシュバンシュタイン城に行きました。6時間以上のドライブで行ったのでホストマザーとホストファミリーには感謝しかないです。
ノイシュバンシュタイン城は音声案内を聴きながら見て回る形式でした。日本語の音声案内があったためとても助かりました。

During a family trip, we visited Neuschwanstein Castle. It took more than six hours by car, so I am very grateful to my host family.
We walked around the castle while listening to an audio guide, and I was happy that there was also a Japanese audio guide available.

また休日にはケルン大聖堂やカーニバル、音楽会に連れて行ってもらいました。
ケルン大聖堂は階段で上まで登ったのでとても疲れましたが、その分、上から見た景色は最高でした。
カーニバルはどんな年齢の人も性別関係なくさまざまなコスチュームを着て楽しんでいる姿が印象的でした。

On holidays, they took me to Cologne Cathedral, a carnival, and several concerts.
I climbed to the top of Cologne Cathedral by stairs, which was very tiring, but the view from the top was amazing.
At the carnival, I was impressed to see people of all ages and genders wearing various costumes and enjoying themselves freely.

音楽会は教会のオルガンの演奏会とビバルディのコンサートに行きました。日本では味わえないような素晴らしい演奏会でした。
特にビバルディのコンサートでは演奏が終わった後のスタンディングオベーションに圧巻されました。

I also went to an organ concert at a church and a Vivaldi concert.
These were wonderful experiences that I could not easily have in Japan. Especially at the Vivaldi concert, I was amazed by the standing ovation after the performance.

放課後は映画を見たり、おしゃべりをしたりして過ごすことが多いです。英語音声・英語字幕で映画を見ることも多く、とても勉強になりました。
また、雪が多く降った日は大きな雪だるまを作りました。日本ではできない経験なのでとても楽しかったです。

After school, I often watch movies and chat with my host family.
We sometimes watch movies in English with English subtitles, which helps me improve my English skills.
One day, when it snowed a lot, we made a big snowman. It was a very fun experience because I cannot do that in Japan.

学校はとても自由で大学のような雰囲気です。同い年から30代近い人まで幅広い年代の方がいて、日本の学校との違いに最初はとても驚きました。
時間割も日本とは違い、7時30分に一限がスタートします。一コマは45分で、二つ続けて90分の授業になります。

My school has a very free atmosphere, almost like a university.
There are students of various ages, from the same age as me to people close to their thirties, which was very different from schools in Japan.
The first class starts at 7:30 a.m., and two 45-minute lessons are usually combined into a 90-minute class.

授業の間には15分休みがあります。特にお昼休みというものはないため、空いた時間に軽食をとる形です。
授業中に食べている人もいて、日本では考えられないことなのでとても驚きました。

There is a 15-minute break between classes.
There is no specific lunch break, so students eat during the breaks when they feel hungry.
Some students even eat during class, which would be unimaginable in Japan.

バスや電車、飛行機がストライキの日だから学校が休みだと言われたことが一番衝撃的でした。
海外では遅延があることは知っていましたが、完全に止まる日があるとは思っていなかったので驚きました。

The most shocking experience for me was when I was told that school would be closed because buses, trains, and even airplanes were on strike.
I knew that transportation could be delayed overseas, but I had never imagined that everything could completely stop.

また、日本人留学生とそのバディでオランダの遊園地へ行きました。
車で国境を越えられることは日本では考えられないので、とても新鮮な体験でした。

On that day, the Japanese exchange students and their buddies went to an amusement park in the Netherlands.
Crossing a national border by car without using a passport felt like a very new and special experience.

もともと英語がとても苦手で、英語で話すことに自信がありませんでした。
しかし留学してみると、私のつたない英語にもみんなが耳を傾けてくれ、困ったときには助けてくれています。

Originally, I was very poor at English and had little confidence in speaking it.
However, everyone here listens carefully to my imperfect English and kindly helps me when I have trouble.

あと数日しかドイツにいられないことを寂しく思いますが、残りの時間を全力で楽しみ、全力で学びたいと思います。

Although I only have a few days left in Germany, I want to enjoy every moment and learn as much as possible so that I will have no regrets.
