ごきげんよう。カナダに留学中のO.A.です。カナダでの生活は文化の違いをたくさん体験することができ、とても楽しい毎日を送っています。

飛行機では緊張と期待で胸がいっぱいでした。フライト時間は12時間で、とても長く感じました。飛行機には様々な国籍の人がいて飛行機に乗っただけで海外に来た気持ちになりました。フライトがすごく長くて足がとっても痛くなり、友達と笑ったのも素敵な思い出です。

カナダは今マイナス10度が当たり前の季節なので学校が雪で休校になることも多々あります。休校になった日は庭で雪だるまを作ったりして過ごしています。外はすごく寒いですが、ショッピングモールなどの室内では半袖で過ごしている人もいて驚きました。また、美味しいアイスクリームのお店は雪が降っても多くのお客さんが来ています。

ホームステイについて紹介します。

ホームステイ先にはホストマザーと3人の留学生がいます。ホストファミリーの方々はとても優しく、私のつたない英語も優しく聞いてくれます。ホストファミリーと週末にお買い物に行くことや、ご飯を食べることは文化の違いを感じることができるとても楽しい経験です。カナダのスーパーは日本に比べてとても大きく、見たことがない食材がたくさんあります。ホストマザーが見たことがない食材やお菓子について教えてくれるのでスーパーに行くことがすごく楽しいです。週末には日本料理のお店に連れて行ってくれました。カナダで日本料理を食べるのは少し不思議な気分でしたがとても楽しかったです。海外の方が日本料理を美味しそうに食べているところを見たことが無かったので、多くの海外の方がとても美味しそうに日本食を食べているのを見てとても嬉しかったです。

次に学校生活について紹介します。

私の学校はアジア系の方が少なく、カナダの方がほとんどです。目が合ったら話したことがなくても笑顔で挨拶をします。学校のみんなが友達であるような雰囲気がとても気に入っています。

私は最初、ドラマと生物と英語と数学の授業を受けていました。私が学校で最初に驚いたことは、授業を自由に変えることができることです。私はビジネスの授業を受けてみたかったので、今は数学の代わりにビジネスの授業を受けています。

ドラマやビジネスの授業は日本で受けることが出来ないのですごく貴重な体験だと思います。ドラマの授業ではみんなでゲームをしたり、グループごとに歌の発表をします。その他の授業でも多くの生徒が次々と手を上げて考えを伝え、授業に参加しています。日本での授業との違いに驚きましたが、授業の内容についてより理解することができると思いました。バレンタインデーやピンクシャツデーの日には、多くの生徒がピンクの服で学校に登校します。ピンクシャツデーはカナダ発祥のイベントです。日本では経験できないイベントも多く、全力でイベントを楽しむことができるのも海外の学校の魅力だと思いました。友達とコミニュケーションを取るのはすごく難しいですが、友達は優しく私の英語を聞こうとしてくれます。英語で伝えるときに失敗することはたくさんありますが、自分の英語が通じたときはすごく嬉しくなります。また、英語をもっと勉強したいという原動力になると感じました。

これからの留学生活でも文化の違いをたくさん経験し、多くのことを学びたいです。この経験を自分にとって忘れられない大切な思い出にするために自分から行動することを大切にしたいです。

Good day to you. My name is A. O., and I am currently studying abroad in Canada. I am enjoying my life in Canada very much because I can experience many cultural differences.

On the plane, I was full of tension and expectation. The flight time was 12 hours and it felt very long. There were many people of different nationalities on the plane and I felt like I was in a foreign country just by getting on the plane. The flight was so long that my legs were very sore, and I have wonderful memories of laughing with my friends.

It is common for the temperature in Canada to be minus 10 degrees Celsius, so schools are often closed because of the snow. I spend the days when school is closed making snowmen in the yard. It is very cold outside, but I was surprised to see people wearing short sleeves in shopping malls and other indoor places. Also, many delicious ice cream stores attract many customers even when it snows.

I would like to introduce my homestay.

In my homestay family, there is a host mother and three international students. My host family is very kind and they kindly listen to my poor English. Going shopping and eating with my host family on weekends is a very enjoyable experience that allows me to experience cultural differences. Canadian supermarkets are much bigger than those in Japan, and there are many foods that I have never seen before. My host mother taught me about ingredients and snacks that I had never seen before, so going to the supermarket was a lot of fun. On weekends, she took me to a Japanese restaurant. It felt a little strange to eat Japanese food in Canada, but it was very fun. I had never seen foreigners eating Japanese food so I was very happy to see many foreigners eating Japanese food so deliciously.

Next, I would like to introduce my school life.

There are few Asian students in my school, and most of them are from Canada. When we see each other, we greet each other with a smile even if we have never talked before. I really like the atmosphere of the school, where everyone seems to be a friend.

I started out taking Drama, Biology, English, and Math classes. One of the first things that surprised me about the school was the freedom to change classes. I wanted to take business classes, so now I am taking business classes instead of math.

Drama and business classes are very valuable experiences because they are not available in Japan. In the drama class, everyone plays games together and each group presents a song. In other classes, many students raise their hands one after another to express their thoughts and participate in the class. I was surprised at the difference from the classes in Japan, but I thought I could understand more about the content of the classes.On Valentine's Day and Pink Shirt Day, many students wear pink to school. Pink Shirt Day is an event that originated in Canada. There are many events that we don't have in Japan, and I thought it was the charm of a foreign school to be able to enjoy events with all your might. It is very difficult to communicate with my friends, but they try to listen to my English kindly. It is difficult to communicate with them, but I am very happy when I can communicate with them. I also felt that it motivates me to study English more.

I would like to experience many cultural differences and learn a lot during my future study abroad. I would like to make this experience an unforgettable and precious memory for myself by taking action on my own.
