高校１年生(35期生)

授業では、自分の考えを発表したり、文章を書いたりします。個人的に難しいと思う科目は、English、Humanities、Religionです。Englishでは、芸能人やメディアの影響について学び、英語での高度な表現方法を身につけています。Humanitiesでは、国の発展について学び、グラフを読み取ったりしています。私の決めた留学の観点が「オーストラリアの幸福度ランキングが高い理由」であり、国の発展は人々の幸福度を測る上で重要な指標なので、とても参考になっています。Religionでは、神の概念について学んでいます。この３科目では、長い英文を理解したりパラグラフを書いたりすることに最初は苦戦し、授業中に終わらなかった課題を家ですることもありました。しかし、時間をかけて自力で課題をすることで、英語力が着実に向上しているのを感じます。留学生は任意で取り組む課題もありますが、自分の力を伸ばす良い機会なので、私はできる限り取り組むようにしています。今では授業中に文章を書き上げたり発言をしたりできるようになりました。

In the class, we always present our idea and write a paragraph. The subjects which I think difficult individually are English, humanities and religion. In English class, we learn about the influences of celebrities and media and master the method of writing a good paragraph in English. In humanities class, we learn about the improvement of countries and analyze graphs. My perspective of studying abroad is “Why Australia has a high happiness ranking” so this class is very good for me because the happiness of people is sometimes influenced by the improvement of countries. In religion class, we learn about the representation of God. In these three subjects, I struggled to understand long English sentences and writing paragraphs. I sometimes did the works I couldn’t finish in the class at home. However, I feel my English skill improving to do the works by myself taking a lot of times. Then I always try the work exchanging students don’t have to do as possible because it is a good opportunity to improve my skill. Now I can finish writing paragraph and speak up in the class.

私が選択科目として受講しているDigital Designでは、デザインを学んで、ロゴを分析したり立体図形を書いたりしています。自分たちの書いた図形の良いところをお互いに評価しあうこともあります。多民族国家であるオーストラリアは様々な種類のアートの影響を受けておりデザインのレベルが高いことで有名ですが、私はこのような様々なデザインへの理解を促す教育があるからこそ、多くのアートを組み合わせることができデザインが発展し続けているのだと思いました。

In Digital Design class, which I take as an elective subject, we learn about the design, analyze logos and draw the 3D figures. We sometimes evaluate each other on the good points of our drawings. Australia, which is a multi-ethnic country, is famous for a high design skill because of the influences of many kinds of arts. I thought these educations, which encourage understanding many kinds of design, make Australian combine them and improve their design.

また、Brigidine Collegeは行事がとても多いです。例えば、Swimming Carnivalやダンスイベント、お菓子パーティーなどがあります。最も印象に残っている行事は、「繋がり」をテーマに、１日かけて様々なグループワークをしたことです。グループに分かれ、初対面の人と協力してクイズに答えたり、ダンスをしたりしました。様々なアクティビティを通して、「繋がり」とは協力して何かを達成する時のコミュニケーションから生まれるのだと分かりました。

Also, Brigidine College has a lot of events. For example, Swimming Carnival, Dance event and sweets party. The most memorable event is a full day of a lot of group works on the theme of "connection. Divided into groups, we answered the quizzes and danced with first meeting persons. Through various activities, I found the communication to accomplish something in cooperation makes “connections”.

次に、ホストファミリーについて紹介します。私は、２つのホストファミリーに約５週間ずつ滞在することになっており、今は２家族目に滞在しています。どちらのホストファミリーも日本に興味を持っており、お互いに文化を教えあっています。そして、ホストファミリーの子供達は学校で日本語の授業をとっているので、日本語を話してくれることもあります。また、よく夕食後に映画鑑賞をします。「The man from snowy river」などのオーストラリア映画を見てオーストラリアの自然や文化を学んだり、日本の映画を英語で見て日本の文化を教えたりしています。また、ちらし寿司を作ったのですが、喜んでくれてとても嬉しかったです。ホストファミリーは私に、「教えるのは楽しいから何でも聞いてね。」と言ってくれているので、私は理解できないことや気になることがあったら必ず聞くようにしています。そして、私の誕生日にはホストファミリーがパーティーをしてくれました！ホストファミリーの祖母も来てくれて、一緒に火を焚いてバーベキューをしたりアイスケーキを食べたりしたのがとても楽しかったです。そして、日本では私の誕生日は冬なので、夏の誕生日は初めてでとても良い経験になりました。

Next, I’d like to explain about my host family. I am supposed to stay with two host families for about 5 weeks each and now I am staying with the second family. Both of two families are interested in Japan so we teach each other our culture. In addition, the host families’ children are taking Japanese class in the school, and they sometimes speak to me in Japanese. Also, we often watch a movie after dinner. I can learn about Australian nature and culture by watching Australian movies, such as “The man from snowy river” and teach Japanese culture by watching Japanese movies with English subtitles. When I cooked chirashi sushi, they loved it and I was happy. Host family said to me, “We like teaching. So please ask me anything.” So, I always ask them whatever I can’t understand or want to know. Also, they threw the party for my birthday. Their grandmother came and we barbecued with a fire and ate ice cakes together. Also, my birthday is always in winter in Japan, so it was my first birthday in summer and good experience.

次に、印象に残っている３つの思い出を紹介します。
１つ目は、Cedar Creek Fallsという滝に行ったことです。初めて滝でウォータースライダーをしたり、岩からダイブしたりしました。私は泳げないので、ホストファミリーが助けてくれて安全に楽しむことができました。また、ここでは岩に座って本を読みながら、リラックスしている人が沢山いました。現地の人々は自然と共に生活しているのだなと感じました。

Then I’d like to introduce the three impressive places. 
First, I went the water fall which is called Cedar Creek Falls. I did water slider on the water fall and dived from rocks for the first time. I can’t swim so my host family helped me so that I could enjoyed safely. Also, there were many people who is relaxing reading books on the rocks. I found that the local people live with nature.

２つ目は、サンコープスタジアムで行われたエドシーランのコンサートに行ったことです。多くのスポーツの試合が行われるサンコープスタジアムは長方形のグラウンドで観客席との距離が近いため、上の席からでもパフォーマンスを見ることができました。そして、観客全員でスマホのライトをつけてスタジアム全体を輝かせたのが印象的です。エドシーランの素晴らしいパフォーマンスを見るとともに、人々の一体感を感じることができとても良い経験になりました。

Second, I went to the Ed Sheeran’s concert in the Suncorp Stadium. This stadium, which also holds many sports games, has a rectangle ground and is close to the audience. So, I could see the performance from the upper sheet. Then it was impressive that all of audience turned on smartphone light to light up the whole stadium. It was a very good experience to watch the Ed Sheeran’s amazing performance and feel the unity of people.

３つ目はAustralia Day という建国記念日に、ホストファミリーの友達の家で行われたパーティーです。スピーチや歌を聞いたりクイーンズランド州発祥のラミントンというお菓子を食べたりしました。日本に留学経験のある女性が、「毎日英語を聞いて理解するのは、とても大変だと思う。でも、この留学はあなたを大きく変えてくれるよ。あなたは勇気がある！」と言ってくれました。私はそれを聞いて、絶対にこの留学では自分から多くの人々に沢山話しかけて、自分を変えるチャンスを少しでも増やそうと改めて決心しました。

Third, I went to the party held at the home of host family’s friends on Australian Day. I listened to the speech and songs, and ate lamingtons, which originated in Queensland. The woman, who has studied abroad in Japan, said to me, “It’s very hard to listen to and understand English everyday but this experience will change you largely. You are brave!.” To hear that, I decided once again that I would talk to many people on this study abroad and increase the chances of changing myself as much as possible.
