高校１年生(32期生)　　ニュージーランド留学

ごきげんよう！梅田です。私はニュージーランドのMarist collegeに通っています。

ニュージーランドに着いてから最初の1週間は他の学校に留学する友達と一緒に事前英語研修を受けました。研修中はニュージーランドの学校や家庭、マオリの文化などについて学びました。特に、マオリの文化を学んだときに、マオリの伝統的なダンスに使う「ポイ」というものを作ったのが印象的でした。

また、私と友達はホストファザーとホストマザー、そして9歳の女の子と5歳の男の子がいる家庭で1週間生活させていただきました。ホームステイ期間中に私の誕生日があったのですが、サプライズで誕生日ケーキとメッセージカードを用意してくれていて、とても驚きましたし嬉しかったです！他にもビーチや丘、街中にも連れて行ってくれて、とても内容の濃い時間を過ごすことができました。このホストファミリーとは1週間しか一緒に過ごすことができませんでしたが、とても感謝しています。

 

Hello! I’m Umeda. I’m studying at Marist College in New Zealand.

I got English training for a week with my friends who are studying in New Zealand.

During the training, we learned about New Zealand’s school, family, and Maori culture.

Ｗhen I learned about Maori culture, I was impressed that I made “poi” which uses traditional Maori dance.

I stayed my host family’s house with my friend for a week.　Our host parents has two children. They prepared a birthday cake and message card for my birthday. I was very surprised but very happy! They also took us to the hill and city.

I could spend a wonderful time in there.

I was only able to spend a week with this host family, but I appreciated them.

 

次に学校生活についてお話ししたいと思います。私の通っているMarist CollegeはYear7からYear13までの学校で、私はYear11に入りました。Marist CollegeにはChavoin, Chanel, Champagnat, Colinという4つのハウスがあり、私はChavoinに所属しています。そしてハウスの中はWhanauといういくつかのグループに分かれています。WhanauはYear7からYear13までの生徒がいるので、様々な学年の人と話す機会があります。

 

Next, I’ll talking about our school. Marist College has students from Year7 to Year13 and I joined Year11. There are four houses which is Chavoin, Chanel, Champagnat and Colin, and I belong to Chavoin. These houses are also divided into several groups called Whanau.

There are students who are Year7 to Year13, so we can talk with different Year in Whanau.

 

授業は1時間で、5時間目まであります。科目ごとに教室が違い、その上授業と授業の間には休憩がないので授業終了のチャイムと同時にいっせいに移動しています。

2時間目が終わると30分間のモーニングティーの時間があり、その時間で持ってきたお菓子やフルーツ、サンドウィッチを食べたり友達と喋ったりしています。

科目は数学と英語のほかに5つの教科を選ぶことができ、私はマオリ語、ドラマ、サイエンス、歴史、ENHというクラスを取りました。マオリ語の授業はパソコンやタブレットを使って簡単な日常会話を学んでいます。どの教科も英語を話すスピードがはやく、専門的な単語が多く出てくるので理解するのが大変ですが、先生や現地の生徒の子たちがとても親切で、分かりやすく教えてくれるので助かっています。

 

Classes are one hour, ends in period 5. Each subject has a different classroom, so after class, we quickly move on to the next classroom.

At the end of period 2, we have break time which is called “morning tea”. We can eat snacks, fruits, sandwiches and talk with friends.

There are five classes available in addition to English and math. I take classes in Maori, drama, science, history and ENH. I like Maori class, which we use our computer to learn simple conversations and our teacher teaches us Maori culture.    

It’s very hard to understand because all teacher speaks English very fast and there are many technical words. But my teacher and friends help me to understand, so I can keep up with classes.  

 

また、今のホストファミリーもとても優しくて、たくさん話しかけてくれて、毎週色々なところへ連れて行ってくれます。この前はラグビーの観戦、ビーチやショッピングにも連れて行ってくれました！ホストシスターはMarist Collegeに通っているので一緒に登校してくれます。このお家に約2ヶ月もステイさせていただけてとても感謝しています。

 

Also, my current host family is very kind. They talk a lot and take me to rugby game, beach and shopping! My host sister goes to Marist College, so we go to school together.

I am very grateful to homestay in this house for about 2 months.

 

私がニュージーランドに来て1ヶ月が経ち、後残り約40日ですが、まだまだ目標を達成できていないので、残りの留学生活を大事にしていきたいです。

 

One month has passed since I came to New Zealand, and about 40 days remain. But I can’t achieve my goal, so I want to make good use of my study abroad.
