【国際教育部】姉妹校Brigidine Collegeとのオンライン交流

姉妹校Brigidine Collegeとのオンライン交流
今年度(2020年度)はコロナ禍の影響で、例年行っていた海外との国際交流プログラムを行うことができません。ただ、このコロナ禍を新たなチャンスにできないかと姉妹校であるオーストラリアのBrigidine College Junior & Senior High Schoolの日本語の先生方と話し合い、両校でオンラインでの交流を行うことを決めました。具体的にはBrigidine Collegeの日本語の授業に本校生徒がZoomで参加し、英語と日本語でコミュニケーションをとるというものです。今回はtrial（試み）として、夏休み中に中学３年生を対象に４回行いました。
自己紹介をメインにした回と、自分が聞きたいことを自由に質問する回の２通りの内容を、クラス全体で行ったり、小グループに分かれたりと幾つかの方法で行ってみました。大妻多摩生の自己紹介では、ペットや自分の好きな本・ぬいぐるみを登場させるなど家庭にいるからこそできる楽しい自己紹介をしてくれた人もいました。また、Brigidine Collegeの生徒からは、今授業で学んでいる「修学旅行と買い物」（Year10＝高校１年生）や「将来の夢、目標」（Year12＝高校３年生）の質問がされ、そこから英語と日本語でのコミュニケーションが進んでいきました。同年代だからこそ共有できる物や価値観があると思います。「将来何がしたいの？」と互いに聞き合ったり、映画の話で「私もそこが好き！いいよね～」と両校生徒が共感し合う場面も見られました。
流暢な英語が話せなくても、単語やボディランゲッジを使って一生懸命に楽しくコミュニケーションをとろうとする生徒たちの姿を見て、とても嬉しく感じました。そのチャレンジする姿勢が、将来、国際的に活躍の場を拡げる大切な一歩になると思います。
２学期以降、授業時間の合致などの課題もありますが、今回始めたプログラムを継続し、生徒の皆さんの心に残る国際交流の場を提供していきたいと思います。

以下、今回のオンライン交流プログラムに参加した両校生徒の感想の一部抜粋です。
(1)今回の交流プログラムについて全体的な感想＜大妻多摩生徒＞
- ・ たくさん話せて面白かったし、英語の勉強をもっとしようと思えた。
- ・ 最初は恥ずかしかったが自分の意見が相手に伝わって理解してくれたことがとても嬉しかった。
- ・ 緊張もしたけれど日本語や英語で質問などをお互いにできたので、自分にとってもすごく刺激になった。
- ・ Brigidine Collegeの人たちが明るくいろいろな質問をしてくれて、楽しかった。
(2)今回の交流プログラムで一番印象に残ったこと＜大妻多摩生徒＞
- ・ オーストラリアの生徒さんの日本語がとても上手だったこと。
- ・ オーストラリアの人たちが明るくてとても面白かったこと。
- ・言いたいことがあまり文にできず単語をつなげてしゃべっていたけど通じてうれしかったこと。
- ・ 英語が完璧に話せなくても、楽しく会話することが出来るということ。
- ・ 日本についての質問に対して、さっと答えることができなくてもっと日本について調べようと思ったこと。
- ・ 初対面なのにすぐにたくさん話すことができて、コミュニケーションの楽しさを感じられたこと！
- ・ 伝えられないことがあっても身振り手振りで言いたいことを一生懸命伝えたこと。
- ・ 英語と日本語でスムーズに言いたいことが伝わり、会話ができたこと。 相手の好きなスポーツなどが知れたこと！
Brigidine College生徒の感想
- ・ I enjoyed connecting with Japanese students, especially during this time of COVID-19. It was fun to learn about what they wanted to do in the future and compare it to our own future plans. Also, I feel encouraged to keep studying Japanese so that one day I can become fluent.
- ・ I liked conversing in Japanese with native speakers as it tested my language abilities. Even though it was a little difficult to hear them at some points, I was also impressed with the Japanese students' English. I thought it was interesting to hear their future plans and compare them to Australian future plans.
- ・ It was a great experience to speak to the Otsumatama students yesterday. It was fun and gave us the opportunity to connect and learn about the girls future plans and experiences, and though both groups weren't fluent we found a way to connect and share our favorite movies, foods and hobbies. It was an awesome experience and I hope we can call again!
- ・ The zoom called with our sister school in Japan was an amazing experience to be a part of. At first it was quite awkward with what questions we wanted to ask but overtime my peers and the Japanese student both engaged with speaking both Japanese and English. I would happily participate again.
- ・ Upon speaking to the Japanese students and teachers at Otsumatama high school in Japan via Zoom meeting, our Year 12 Japanese class was able to connect through spontaneous conversation in both English and Japanese. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss each other's future plans and hopefully improve our speaking skills, even though I thought the Japanese students English was very impressive. I think this was a beneficial experience, especially for those students who plan on going to Japan to work or study in the future, and hopefully we can all meet again very soon.
- ・ The Japanese students were very polite, friendly and understanding of the fact that neither Brigidine nor Otsuma Tama students were fluent in the language they were learning. I enjoyed speaking in Japanese and hearing the girls' English responses - their pronunciation was amazing! If we keep talking to each other in Zoom calls, our Japanese and English would definitely improve.
